LIFE AS A DENTAL HYGIENE STUDENT
About MeMy name is Paola Salazar and I am a Senior Dental Hygiene student. I became involved in the field of dentistry after high school when I started volunteering at a free clinic. At The Northern Virginia Dental Clinic I served as an interpreter and assisted with solely suctioning and sterilization. Even though I was not able to assist in more ways I realized that this was the environment for me. I wanted to gain more experience and be more involved in the office and assisting setting ,therefore I sought out internship opportunities. I obtained one at my own dentist's office and was an intern for a few months before I became an asset. I then became a paid assistant. Working, assisting at Dr. Chaudhry's and being involved in dental related seminars further reinforced my interest in the field of dentistry which lead me to apply to VCU. Now as a soon to be RDH my goal is to use all the knowledge gained at VCU's SOD in order to provide the best possible patient centered care.
